This page is a list of TWiki installations at academic institutions. Please add information about your academic site here, as with TWikiClones but perhaps with a bit more information that would be of interest to TWiki administrators and users at other academic sites. AcademicTWiki is a discussion of TWiki experiences, usage patterns, policies, etc. at academic TWiki sites.

I seeded this site by copying TWikiClones entries with "university" or "college" in their description. Please add new sites, expand the descriptions copied from TWikiClones, delete items representing defunct installations, etc.

Thanks Michell for the initiative. I just created a revamped TWikiInstallation directory where you can run queries to find out academic sites using TWiki. Not sure if below list should be maintained anymore.

I suggest to help enter content the new TWikiInstallation directory based on the old TWikiClones entries. How about starting with below list? Once entered we can remove this topic.

• 23 Aug 1999: TWiki, installed by JeanJordaan behind a firewall, on the University of Stellenbosch intranet.
• 03 Dec 1999: TWiki, installed by JeffPutnam at Eastern Oregon University. This is a public wiki for experimentation and possible academic use. http://cs.eou.edu/twiki/bin/view/Main/WebHome
• 05 Mar 2000: "Blue Hawaii" TWiki, installed by William A. Estrem at University of St. Thomas. http://elvis.stthomas.edu/twiki/bin/view
• 25 May 2000: Installed by IanBicking for internal documentation by technical support at Northwestern University.
• 14 Jun 2000: Trinity College Dublin, initially on MikeKnell 's workstation, but intended for use as a support knowledge base for staff and users.
• 27 Sep 2000: Installed by FredHosch on http://wakko.cs.uno.edu/twiki/ for collaborative use in CS1 at the University of New Orleans, and the textbook An Introduction to Programming and Object Oriented Design using Java by Niqo and Hosch.

• 20 Dec 2000: Installed by AndreaSterbini at http://twiki.dsi.uniroma1.it it's an alpha TWiki with some nice plugins, used as a teaching aid at the Computer Science dept. of Rome 1 University, Italy

• 25 Apr 2001: Installed by MarkusAckermann for internal use at the Department of Computer Structures at University of Ulm. We use it as a tool for managing and documenting student software projects.
• 19 Sep 2001: Installed by TomKing at Queen Mary, University of London (experimenting with distance learning students in Computer Science)
• 08 Nov 2001: Installed by DwayneCox at Coach Universe TWiki to benefit a social network of coaches, trainers, facilitators, business consultants and other related professionals.
• 30 Aug 2002: Installed by NicMcPhee for support of computing courses at the University of Minnesota, Morris, as well for administrative support within the Computer Science department, and by the local student ACM chapter/computer science club. Now experimenting with using a wiki to support the faculty teaching our First Year Seminar course. We first started experimenting with wikis a year ago (August 2001), but things have really taken off and it's now become quite central to how we conduct business.

• 16 Aug 2002: Installed by AntonioTerceiro at Mathematics Institute, Federal University of Bahia - Brazil. It's at http://twiki.im.ufba.br, and we are translating the documentation to portuguese.
• 21 Aug 2002: Installed by NickHunt on a stand-alone Powerbook running Mac OS X, for research information management, and experimentation for possible academic use by undergraduate students of Lighting Design at Rose Bruford College in the UK.
• 24 Sep 2002: Installed by MitchellModel at Wesleyan University. The original goal was to support collaboration among participants in Wesleyan's innovative Integrative Genomic Sciences initiative, but there was enough other interest that we decided to make it available to the entire Wesleyan community. We're still playing around with configuration, customization, top-level web organization (see discussion at LotsOfSmallWebs and AddingNewWebsGuidelines), etc., as well as trying to figure out how a policy process and whether to open TWiki to students or just faculty and staff.
• 08 Oct 2002: Installed by Arne Groh und CyrusZahiri for Faculty of Architecture, Townplanning and Landscape at University of Kassel. We use an open, unrestricted version of twiki. There is no misusing of the infrastructure. Students and Teachers organize their subjects mostly without any help. Further informations (in german) Working Paper about the use of Twiki
