Question

Is there a way to access a variable defined in another topic?

A topic inherits variables defined in its WebPreferences. But what if I want to define some variables that I need in several pages and don't want that variable to be global to the entire web?

Answer

ALERT! If you answer a question - or have a question you asked answered by someone - please remember to edit the page and set the status to answered. The status is in a drop-down list below the edit box.

Topic level variable exist only in the current topic, and not if included by another topic. You can define the variables in the WebPreferences so that they are known in all topics of that web.

Once there also was the TopicVarsPlugin which did excatly what's needed here. Always thought this feature should be in the Core. Maybe when we get the ContentAccessSyntax. wink
