One danger that we have discussed is the fact that viruses can be hidden or disguised as programs, and music files, etc. This is where your antivirus scans and stops infected downloads.

Another danger that we discussed as well are the spyware programs that are part of many free download programs. This is where you run your spyware detection utility to locate and get rid of the spyware installed on your system.

One danger that we have not discussed is making sure you are downloading the correct version of the file. Remember that there are three major types of computer operating systems, (Windows, Mac, and Linux) and there are different versions of those operating system. A program compatible for Windows, will probably not work on a Mac operating system without additional hardware and a Mac program will not run on Windows.

Another danger is not checking to see if you have enough hard drive space to store programs and files you download from the Internet. Movies, for instance, can take up a whole bunch of space on your hard drive, depending on which format they are. We will be discussing different types of download file formats soon.

Yet another danger is downloading or copying a program that is copyrighted without the owner's permission. Although there are some ways to stop you from doing this, there are still many ways to download or copy graphic and music files that are copyrighted. There are still many files and programs that are not copyrighted and it does state on the website that you are allowed to download or copy the file to your hard drive. This is one of the big issue of filesharing between computers, making digital copies of movies and songs that are indeed copyrighted. Many ISP's are now giving you warnings if someone makes a complaint against you, that they will not allow you to use their service to connect to the Internet.
