SYSTEM TOOLS BACKUP

If you are using Windows 95 or Windows 98 operating system - you make backups of your computer system by clicking on the "start" button, then clicking on the "programs" menu option, then clicking on the "accessory" menu option, then clicking on "system tools" option and then clicking on the "backup" system option. Then follow the instructions on the screen. Unless you have hundreds of 1.44 mg floppies disk and lots of time, you will not choose to backup everything on your system.

If you have a original program disk of any of your programs, you do not need to make a backup of this. Make a backup for those programs with no original program disk. Also make a backup for any data (documents, songs, pictures, databases, movies, etc) that you create with your software programs. You are able to select what you want to backup with this "backup" system option.

If you are using Windows Me or Windows 2000 or Windows XP, you can tell the computer how often you want to create "restore" or "go back to" point. You do this by clicking on the "start" button, then clicking on the "programs" menu option, then clicking on the "accessory" menu option, then clicking on "system tools" option and then clicking on the "create a restore point" option. Then follow the instructions on your screen. This tends to use a lot of your hard drive space, which is why many of these newer versions of Windows require hard drives of 20 gigabytes or more.

If you do need to use a backup , you then can do a "restore" function by going to the same system tools menu and choosing the "restore" function instead of "backup" or "creating a restore point". Again you would follow the instructions on your screen.
