When I decided to learn Linux and migrate from Windows to Linux, I never expected that 3 years later I'd still consider myself pretty much of a Linux novice, and still have the same (or a similar or related) goal.

I suppose that WikiLearn will not be the answer to a maiden's prayers with respect to learning Linux (hopefully it will be helpful and useful), but instead, learning Linux will be resolved something like this:

  • I (anyone) will learn some things (with respect to specific tasks, areas, or whatever) from resources like WikiLearn, the man pages, HOWTOS, books, etc.
  • Linux, or more specifically, the user facing things (like the KDE and GNOME desktops, various GUI configuration tools, and GUI front ends to "traditional" Linux (command line??) programs will make many things much easier to do, and lessen the need to "learn" Linux. (Users will migrate (wander??) between Mac, Linux, and Windows, with little need to concern themselves with the subtleties of any of them.
  • A rising level of computer literacy will make whatever concepts used to be strange in the transition from Windows to Linux commonplace and well recognized (if not thoroughly understood in all details). (I'm thinking of concepts like (or related to) multiple users, file ownership and permissions, internationalization, localization, UNICODE (it will come), and, you name it.)

I meant to start this topic about a month ago (partly because I had, or thought I had) some useful / interesting insights at that time. Now I can remember only one or two. (One is the first sentence on this page, the second is the second sentence on this page.)
