Just to keep my head on straight, listing the reasons I want to move WikiLearn to another web host.

See:

Contents

Reasons to Move

  • It was my original intent to host WikiLearn separate from twiki.org -- PeterThoeny has kindly hosted WikiLearn here but I don't want to take advantage of his hospitality.
  • If I was hosting WikiLearn separately, I would have many more webs -- asking PeterThoeny to set all those up would be taking advantage of his hospitality.
  • There are subjects (socio-political related (and auto repair, recipes, others)) that I would cover on WikiLearn but they don't fit the charter of SourceForge? , so I really should move / create them elsewhere. (Potentially I could have two separate sites, one to deal with the open source related subjects, and one to deal with everything else, but that still means I must create a new TWiki site.)
  • It's probably worthwhile as a learning experience (though I'm beginning to hate learning experiences wink ).
  • Unreliability of SourceForge? (too many "500 Internal Server Errors").
  • Uncertaintly about SourceForge? 's continued commitment to providing free hosting for Open Source projects.

Comments

I (PeterMasiar) also thought about renting web hosting place somewhere, and http://www.eryxma.com has good ratings at TWikiOnWebHosting? . I even bought an account, but it was not as easy as I thought, and I was more busy than I expected, so I did not manage to get Twiki up and running.

Eryxma's support is excellent, they answered my questions quickly, but looks like Twiki is a pig to install. frown If you do not know what to ask, you are as dead as without support. wink

I was even thinking about switching sides to another wiki, but many of them lack features I found important, like full version control, or user authorisation, or are non-perl. Or use database to store pages - and mysql is one more thing to learn (and go wrong), so I pass for now.

_Peter, Thanks for your comments! If I do get moved, I'll let you know. -- RandyKramer - 12 May 2003_
