Whenever a user is entering a Wiki-Web, he will be intially placed on the %MAINWEB%. Obviously this behaviour can be changed by editing either the variable or the TWiki.cfg file. This involves some effort and there should be an easier way change the entry web (e.g. < %ENTYWEB% variable or an entry in the configuration file).

IIUC, long time ago original first Twiki had flat page structure - as most other wikis still have. When webs were added (long time before I joined wink ) , some painful decision were made how to place pages. Twiki docs and some of first plugins were placed into TWiki web. Apparently there was attempt to avoid too many webs, so user information went into Main web. As a result, hardly anybody watches what is going on in Main web, because most of the additions are just noise: new users and user homepages changes. But there are real gems in Main web, like SuccessStories and presentations.

There was good proposals like RenameMainWebToHome, and even having two user-related webs: system-oriented User web (echa page is writeable only by owner), and another web Home, where users can create homepages and possibly allow other to edit them, i.e. leave a message or something.

Having real Main web as entry point separate from User web IMHO will increase usability and plain understanding of TWikiSite structure. Unfortunatelly, CoreTeam already deployed Twiki with old structure, trained users in old ways, and are more interested in adding new features to plugin API than making changes to interface and design just to increase usability and ease acceptance for new Twiki adopters.

As any other OpenSource project, they are not paid for the (huge) amount of time they sped on the project, and rele of the game is put up (the code), or shut up. wink I collected some of tips to improve usability in TWikiAdminCookBook and InstantEnhancements. I had also a (weak) attempt to create new Twiki distro with BetterDefaults, but apparently there is not enough support to pool resources of complaining users like me to work on that, either.

Will take much more time...

This discussion started (IIRC) at HowToChangeMainWeb page. ColasNahaboo proposed clever hack using Apache redirection - but as I argued there, it's a hack, not something non-root newbie admin will dare to try (I would not wink )
