Atom Publishing

Purpose & scope

Atom is not just about news feed like RSS. It is also defining a protocol for publishing content on the Internet. On that topic we should gather information about that standard and discuss ways to make TWiki support it (if not already supported). I have a Nokia phone with which I can upload images and movies in one click to web sites supporting Atom publishing. Since I happen to run my web site using TWiki I would like TWiki to support Atom publishing.

Discussion

I understand most blog engines support Atom publishing.

My phone tries to "Retrieve services". All it does is downloading the URL I gave for the Atom service (was pointing to a topic in my Sandbox). Then it says "Service not reachable. Check your service provider settings." It's probably expecting to get some sort of XML defining your server capabilities.

A typical corporate use case for Atom publishing is when you send staffs to a business show you can have them blogging reports and pictures real time through their smartphones without wasting their precious time on the show by having to use a web browser. They just select a menu option from their smartphones and it uploads pictures and reports.
