http://xopus.org/ a browser based in-place wysiwyg XML editor with a plugin architecture. Apparently has been in development/use since 2000 in some content management systems. They promise a midsummer 2002 open source release. The license appears to be a variant of BSD-with-advertising-clause.

Judging from a page on their (successful) efforts to port ContentEditable to Mozilla, using Xopus requires IEv5.5+ or their version of Mozilla 0.9x (downloadable). Moz-CE is slated to included in the main Mozilla branch at v1.1.

As promised there is now an open source release available, released on 2002-Aug-30.

A visit there on 07 June 2003 shows the source has been closed again.
