(As discussed, the InternetExplorerBrowser page is now just an INCLUDE of InternetExplorer)

The most popular web browser, particularly on corporate intranets (see TWikiMission), despite an 'interesting' approach to WebStandards.

Can be quite a challenge to uninstall, e.g. installing Win2000 service packs after installing IE6 renders it almost uninstallable (see this MS KB article which worked for me at least). Also, OEM versions of IE (e.g. from an ISP or some supplier other than Microsoft) are also designed to be impossible to uninstall - so download from Microsoft if you can.

IE5 and IE6 also have some significant cache-related BrowserIssues, most of which now have fixes.

See Wiki:InternetExplorer and http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ for more information and downloads.

See BackFromPreviewLosesText for a fix to a data-loss caching problem with IE5.x and IE6 - the fix now applies to Dec 2001 code, or you can try the TWikiAlphaRelease.

IE users are also recommended to try out the JavascriptBasedEditor feature, which is implemented in the 'iejs' skin in the Dec 2001 release. It lets you click buttons to apply TWiki bold/italic type formatting, insert signatures, create headings/bullet lists, and even indent/de-indent headings/bullets. It also has the equivalent of a PopupPageIndexForEditing, listing topics in the current web in a drop-down list.

To use the 'iejs' skin, just go to your home page and add the following line:

   * Set SKIN = iejs

This is supported here on TWiki.org, give it a try!

  • NOTE: If you use this setting it will force your skin back from PatternSkin (TWikisNewLook) to the older 'classic' skin.
