Consultants For Hire Talk Page

This page is to discuss the page ConsultantsForHire. It is an example of a TalkPage.

The Use of Logos

You will have noticed that I added TWiki.net Independent Consultant logos to the page yesterday. We don't have any guidelines laid down for the use of logos on our community site and I added the logos with some trepidation and only after discussing it with Peter Thoeny. I notice that other people have also added logos. Do we, as a community, want to lay down guidelines as to:
  1. the number of logos a person can have against their listing?
  2. the size of the logos?

Stale Content

Q: The section at the bottom of the page (" Looking for Consultant") seems rather old and out of date. Would anyone have any objections if this was removed?
A: I have just removed that content. If I get flamed for doing this I'll just say that I asked here first!

No, please remove it I have thought of it as well smile

As one of the people who started using logos, I'm very much in favour. I welcome logos on that page, as it again reinforces the link between TWiki and the availability of professional support. I had formed the impression that we had settled on a "name on the left, CV on the right" structure for that page, but if it works better this way, that's fine with me.

Yes, remove the "looking for" section. You might check CodersForHire too...

I remember Crawford wrote a topic on logo usage on the community site, but of course i can not find it again.. It is somewhere in Codev, perhaps i'll find it later...

The topic was a result of the community summit, where the plugin web logo situation was discussed.

Ah, found it:

GuidelinesForRecognisingSponsors

This only discusses logos on plugin pages though.

I don't like to plaster twiki.org in logo's, but if others feel it is necesarry to have their logo there, i won't hold back.

I've removed stale content. Also read the GuidelinesForRecognisingSponsors page. If these guidelines apply to this page then we are all in big trouble! wink (I guess they don't). Perhaps we should just "watch this space" and see if anyone objects strongly. (I don't see any objections so far.)

On logos, I like them as long as they are done discretely, e.g. if the logos are small. This shows momentum and interest by different parties! On the other hand, I find the large 200x200px branding logos shown elsewhere on twiki.org quite distracting.

GuidelinesForRecognisingSponsors has been waiting for comments for over a month now. That might be the appropriate place to raise such concerns.

The generic guideline for sponsers is the one I created on GuideLinesSponsorPresenceOnTWikiDotOrg and it had an unfinished section for Plugins so maybe this is why few noticed the topic for extensions.

Now that I read it I realize that I had reviewed it and found it quite OK.

I have now cross linked the two together and I did a few adjustments to the extensions topic so it is aligned with the general guideline. The adjustments do not affect any existing extension. I just stated that the graphic has to be plain gif, png or jpg with no animated gif or flash and I added a max width to the 20 pixel height graphic which all current logos follow.

On the ConsultantsForHire I noticed the new logos and I found this enhances the specific page to look more professionel so I welcome this update.

I have added a guideline for ConsultantsForHire logos to GuideLinesSponsorPresenceOnTWikiDotOrg. Please review

IMHO at this point it's a non issue. TWiki.org is a wiki too, or isn't it? add what you like, remove what you like! Seems we have created this culture where its NOT OK to edit other people's comments which IMHO is completely opposite wiki culture. be respectful, of course, when doing so but by all means do so!

I was wondering if there's some kind of market place in terms of "I got the money, who wants to develop?".

See the offer from WolfgangStoecher in TWikiVMComments...
