Production Release Checklist

Steps when preparing a new production release

Release preparation

• Test, Create and Upload a release package - BuildingARelease
• Update TWikiAdvocacy topics:
  • Create new TWikiAdvocacyNNxNN topic
  • Create press release
  • Compile advocacy target list
  • Review/update TWikiAdvocacyForPublicSites

Release documentation and linking updates

• Update TWikiProductionRelease topic
• Change the previous release topic to the format of the one before that (e.g. add the "no longer the latest production release" note)
• In Main.TWikiPreferences, update LATEST_TWIKI_RELEASE_TOPIC and LATEST_TWIKI_RELEASE_NUMBER setting (to tell DownloadTWiki to include the correct topic)
• Login with ssh:
  • Update index.html with new version number
  • After backing up download.html, generate file from DownloadTWiki using:
    /usr/sfw/bin/wget --user-agent=twiki -O download.html http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Codev/DownloadTWiki
• Update/create known issues topic (such as KnownIssuesOfTWiki04x02)
• Update TWikiProductionRelease topic
• Update TWiki web topics TWikiUpgradeGuide, TWikiInstallationGuide, TWikiReleaseNotesXXxXX
• Add new release to selector in Support.AskedQuestions
• Update Plugins web topic Plugins.TestedOnTWiki, create Plugins.PluginsTestedOnTWikiXXxXX and Plugins.ExtensionsTestedOnTWikiXXxXX (for the latter two, add ExtensionsTestedOnTWiki in RelatedTopics field)
• Update the TWikiUpgradeGuide topic to reflect the updates done in the same topic in the new version. (Upgraders initially read the topic here since their local version is obviously not available until after they have upgraded)

Post release

• Decide code name of follow up release and create topic (AthensRelease, BeijingRelease...)
• Update Codev.WebHome with known issues link and code name topic link
• Update/create TWikiNN web
• Announce in DevelopersNews
• Announce to TWikiDevMailingList
• Announce to TWikiAnnounceMailingList
• Announce to WikiMatrix, SF, Freshmeat and other web sites
• In #twiki IRC:
  • Update initial message with new version number and download URL
  • Teach twikibot the new release, such as: twikibot: TWikiRelease04x00x04 is r10807 of TWiki, released 05 July 2006
