Have posted a modification to
TrippLilley 's
TopicVarsPlugin that should allow users to bundle sets of searches as vars on topics. For instance, a user can set up an application easily
- They don't need to learn Perl
- They don't need sys admin privleges
- They can glean best practices into topic for easy distribution.
Please try it and tell me what you think.

Great idea to collect up a summary of the various applications that people have built on top of TWiki. I am not quite sure whether the above list is representative, though.
TWiki is also not quite as friendly as it could as an application development platform. See the note in
TWikiWhatWillYouBeWhenYouGrowUp for suggestions as to how TWiki can play a better role as an application development platform.

I have tried the
TopicClassificationAddOn and liked it. I think that some sort of default "classification" forms should be part of the TWiki. For this to happen, there is a need to agree on a standard way of classification. should it be based on the old "TopicClassification" on TWiki.org ? should it be based on the
TopicClassificationAddOn ?

Avi, I'm delighted you found
TopicClassificationAddOn useful! Are you suggesting that some kind of form-based classification be pre-configured with the default distribution of TWiki? I've thought about this before and
do feel that
most users would find something like
TopicClassificationAddOn pre-installed in TWiki very useful. Agreeing on a standard classification to include is the tricky part since people use TWiki in so many different ways.
Perhaps we're just a bit premature. There's been talk about after
DakarRelease to provide a variety of
TWikiFor - distributions pre-configured for different uses. That would lend itself to providing pre-configured classification schemes taylored to the different uses.

Is there a glossary maker application? One that would allow entry of glossary words and definitions and automatically alphabetize and have an 0-9/A-Z menu at the top of the page.

At my previous workplace we built a corporate glossary that had some structure. The structure allowed one to run reports, such as to list tech pubs related terms, or to generate an employee handbook for new hires (different reports for managers and individual contributors.)

There are many
WikiChampions out there who create wiki applications for in-house use. They need components. They build everything from scratch. We can build up a new
TWikiApplicationCommunity and create a marketplace where wiki champions can share their apps and components. You are invited to join the discussion in
TWikiAppPackageHowToDiscussion.

Peter, we are building a glossary like you describe, and for some of the same purposes. I wonder if you have any examples we might look at? Our glossary has been compiled using some variation of the FAQ templates found here. But I'm wondering what we might add to make it more useful.
