From home page ( http://www.uddi.org/ ) : "Discover businesses worldwide that offer the exact products and services that you need. Register the products and services of your own business for others to discover. Or both. Technology and business champions are leading the development and deployment of an open, Internet-based Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration (UDDI) specification. UDDI is the building block that will enable businesses to quickly, easily and dynamically find and transact business with one another using their preferred applications."

UDDI and EbXML are two competing b2b frameworks that are open source.

I don't think UDDI is in competition with EbXML - UDDI is intended to be a global directory of WebServices, while EbXML is one interface for delivering WebServices. EbXML is more of a competitor to SOAP (see SoapLite) - UDDI is implemented using SOAP.
By the way, how come UDDI is parsed as a WikiName link on this page?
-- RichardDonkin - 14 Jun 2001
The default parsing rules will match 3 of more caps. However, all caps words aren't given the ?, so create them by typing word in go and then asking for topic creation even though it's not a WikiWord.
