Ubuntu JeOS - 'Just enough Operating System' for virtual appliances
Ubuntu JeOS
is an Ubuntu variant that is optimised for use as a virtual appliance on top of VMware - it was released in Sept 2007 and could be a useful platform for TWiki VMs, similarly to
TWikiVMDebianStable. See
TWikiVMComments for some discussion.
Since there is an Ubuntu package for TWiki, it should be very easy to turn Ubuntu
JeOS into a TWiki virtual appliance, by simply doing
apt-get install apache2 twiki. See
TWikiOnUbuntu for more details on installing TWiki on Ubuntu.
Although we already have a great TWiki VM on Debian, it would be useful for
TWikiMarketing to tap into the huge growth of Ubuntu, which is now the most popular desktop distribution of Linux, and to also make it easy for Windows users to test-drive a version of TWiki that's pre-configured with additional popular non-core plugins. There is a huge pool of people trying Ubuntu now, and this could be a good way of promoting TWiki.
