Install TWiki on Different Platforms

TWiki is an enterprise Wiki that is quite portable to most systems that run Perl and have some key Unix tools (see TWikiSystemRequirements).

However, there can still be interesting installation issues, and it's useful to have somewhere to collect hints and tips - so just add a link here to a page on any new platform on which you install TWiki. Such pages can also be used to discuss packaging TWiki for easier installation on specific platforms.

Note: Some of these pages use packaged versions of TWiki - however, they may not always be up to date with TWikiProductionReleases and in particular TWikiSecurity updates. So check those pages to be aware of any post-install patching or upgrades.

  • For Intel-based Macs, you should be able to use the existing TWikiVMDebianStable () - this is based on VMware for Mac OS (released in Aug 2006) to run TWikiOnLinux on top of MacOSX - much easier to install than normal TWiki installs, better TWiki performance, and full support for InternationalisationEnhancements

• TWiki on Windows - up to date and mainstream installation methods - try these first!
  • can use 4.2.0 TWikiInstaller
  • TWikiVMDebianStable - easy install of TWiki on Windows by using the free VMware Player - pre-configured TWiki server so much easier to install than WindowsInstallCookbook or IndigoPerlCookbook, and full support for InternationalisationEnhancements
  • TWikiForWindowsPersonal - for personal use, run from USB memory stick or install to hard drive - includes TinyWeb webserver
  • IndigoPerlCookbook describes how to install TWiki using the IndigoPerl apache+perl package. Most suitable for a "personal TWiki" e.g. on a laptop.
  • ModPerlWindows and WindowsModPerlInstallCookbook - install with mod_perl for improved performance
  • if is also possible to install TWiki to run under IIS, though there are still outstanding issues. - see Basics of IIS6 troubleshooting if you want to help make it work well.

• Older or niche Windows installation methods
  • TWikiOnWindows (obsolete topic) - covers various web servers on Windows
  • WindowsInstallCookbook - for easy installation using Apache and CygWin - official cookbook for TWiki 3 (01 Sep 2004 release), but not updated for TWiki 4
    • TWikiInstallerWindows (under development - try TWikiUnixInstaller if you are using CygWin Apache)
  • TWikiOnMemoryStick - using MicroWeb webserver on USB memory stick (flash drive)
