    • TWiki Production Release 4.1.2 is available at TWikiRelease04x01x02. This is a patch release, fixing a number of major issues in TWiki 4.1.0 and 4.1.1, including support for Perl 5.6.1. The upgrade package contains all the changed files since 4.1.0 except Main.WebPreferences, Sandbox.WebHome, and Sandbox.WebPreferences because an upgrader you will probably not want these 3 files overwritten. Both 4.1.0 and 4.1.1 can be upgraded by simply copying over all the files on your production installation. The 5.6.1 support was tested on a RedHat 7.3/Apache1.3.23.

    • TWiki 4.0.5 Production Release is available at TWikiRelease04x00x05. It is a bugfix release and contains all the fixes from 4.0.4-hotfixes1 to 4.
    • Note that this release has nothing to do with the 4.1 release which we are all working on at the moment.

    • Change in the use of Subversion. Both DEVELOP and TWikiRelease04x00 branches are deactivated. Instead we now use ONE branch called MAIN for all development of both next release and developement of all Plugins.
    • For patch releases containing only the most urgent bugfixes are checked into a Patch release branch. The current one is Patch04x00. This branch is only used in rare cases and only for bugs fixes related to core code or the default plugins. See PatchReleaseMaintenanceSVN.

    • TWiki core code development moves to Subversion!
      • Subversion, or svn, is a CVS replacement, with several improvements. It uses the HTTP-based WebDAV protocol as its primary network transport, so you can browse to the URL below and view current versions of files right in your browser.
      • Public svn checkout access temporarily at http://svn.twiki.org:8181/svn/twiki/trunk/
      • SourceForge CVS will no longer receive new commits.
      • TWikiAlphaRelease tarballs are still coming from SourceForge CVS, and so will be a bit stale until this can be corrected.
      • The TWikiDevMailingList will receive commit notifications. Look for e-mails with the [SVN] prefix.

    • Recent InternationalisationEnhancements enable use of TWiki with languages that require non-ASCII characters, including Spanish, German, Russian, Hindi, Korean, Japanese, Chinese and <insert your favourite language here>. WikiWords can include accented Roman characters, or use other alphabets such as Cyrillic, with explicit linking for languages where upper case doesn't apply (e.g. Japanese); TWiki pages can use virtually any character set supported by the user's browser. Testers are very welcome!

    • #twiki channel re-created on http://freenode.net (was irc.openprojects.net) for developers and users to meet and discuss. TWikiIRC This synchronous communications method has complementary characteristics compared with asynchronous methods like TWiki. GrantBow created the channel but will add others as IRC channel operators. This was previously attempted by JesseMcConnell on May 10, 2000.
      • To connect get an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) client and connect to one of the freenode.net servers. Use the command /join #twiki to join the channel.

    • TWiki.org is back after a two week outage.
    • SourceForge, where TWiki.org is hosted was compromised on 08 Oct 2001. More then 30 open source projects go affected and most content at TWiki.org was deleted. We tried to restore as quickly as possible, but we had to rely on SourceForge support to provide the backup and restore the file permissions. The whole process took until today.
    • Please start contributing where you left off. Dig in your brain to remember what you wanted to post but could not. I got lots of e-mail from many of you in the past two weeks and simply cannot keep up with replying all in a timely manner. Please post your suggestions in the Codev and Plugins web as before, and ask support questions in the Support web.
    • The core team is working on a backup solution. Also, we plan to move away from SourceForge in the near future because this free service does not provide a secure environment; is too time consuming for the core team; and too disruptive to the TWiki community. Until then, stay tuned.

      The TWiki.Support web is for people who have a technical question or any question about the TWiki deployment. This support web is for TWiki users by TWiki users. We developers should keep an eye on this web, but we do not necessarily need to answer questions. Nevertheless I would appreciate if you monitor this web by subscribing in WebNotify. The goal is to help out users when needed, but also to recognize where documentation and FAQs need to improve.
      Let me know if you have suggestions how to improve this new web, or simply start editing!

    • Our own domain name http://twiki.org/ is now halfway working. There is an intermittent "404 File Not Found" error when accessing the domain. A support request has been filed with SourceForge, #108276.

    • The production version of TWiki is ready to be released. No new features will be implemented, but please report any irregularities you might find in the docs or operation of the latest Beta. I will wait with the production release called 01 Dec 2000 until the twiki.org domain name is working.
    • Check out the December issue of the Web Techniques magazine, a magazine for Internet professionals. This issue is about collaboration, and thanks to AlWilliams' initiative I was able to write a feature article about collaboration called Corporate Collaboration with TWiki. Thanks Al!
